About Us
Columbus Indiana Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, established in 2019, is a group celebrating those who played Slow Pitch Softball in Columbus, Indiana. This Hall of Fame is designed to recognize and acknowledge those who have been instrumental in implementing, upgrading, maintaining and helping grow the sport so many have given so much of their time and talents to.
Organized softball first took place in 1957, when 14 Men’s teams signed up to compete against one another in league play at Lincoln Park, Columbus Indiana. Men and women’s teams have enjoyed the luxury of competing against each other on various levels in maintaining the integrity of softball for the past 60 plus years.
Slow Pitch Softball has made a huge impact on our community in putting Columbus Indiana on the Softball map and providing much revenue for local businesses as well as helping to create a positive influence on how much this sport has brought so many people together as friends, teammates, associates and family.
From its origins in 1957, Columbus Indiana Softball was impacted by many people. From administrators or directors, to umpires and scorekeepers, grounds crews to maintain the fields and even concession workers, many people have given much of their time to ensure this sport continues forward and with great success.
Many players have spent much of their time on the diamonds at Lincoln Park. Some players who started back when the first league was organized, never got to play on a field that had fences. Depending on what diamonds you played on back in the day, the right fielder from one diamond might be standing next to the left fielder from another diamond. Outfielders not only had to dodge each other but later had to dodge light poles that were installed as well.
It is our hope and desire as a Hall of Fame Committee that many people will get involved in spreading the word so that we can give credit to those who have served as Ambassadors of this great game of softball.
